BPBD Prepares Proactive Steps to Face Rainy Season

"This step was taken to improve coordination and collaboration in overcoming potential flood disasters that could affect the Jakarta area and its surroundings," he expressed, Wednesday (11/13).
He explained the Ciliwung riverbank area is one of the flood-prone areas in Jakarta. Therefore, the Jakarta Government launched a comprehensive socialization program to reduce the risk of flooding and promote public awareness, such as sharing weather and flood information, preparing disaster management officers, providing public education, and public participation.
"With this socialization program, the Jakarta Government is trying to increase public awareness about the risk of flooding and the importance of active participation in disaster mitigation," he explained.
According to him, the Jakarta Government has also coordinated with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to conduct weather modification operations as a strategic solution to prevent flooding.
"This step was taken considering the potential for high rainfall and the risk of flooding that could disrupt people's lives," he uttered.
He added the BPBD had carried out readiness checks to deal with potential flooding during this year's rainy season. This step is part of a proactive effort to ensure that all resources and personnel are ready to face the risk of hydrometeorological disasters.
Then Jakarta Government has taken several steps in flood-prone areas ahead of the regional elections, such as mapping flood-prone areas, inter-agency coordination, relocation of polling stations, improving infrastructure, early warning systems, and preparing officers.
"With these steps, the Jakarta Government has demonstrated its commitment to facing the challenges of this year's rainy season, ensuring that all parties are involved in flood disaster mitigation efforts for the safety of the community," he stated.
